Women’s History month, a time dedicated to reflecting upon the enormous impact women have had on our world. From the mathematicians of NASA to the Suffragist movement that led to the 19th Amendment of the United States Constitution, the airwaves fill with inspiring stories of women working, sacrificing, and creating a more inclusive society.

2020, a year of turmoil and uprising. A year without routine and financial growth. A year without parties and social gatherings — well for some. Ending without the magic of the holidays to remind us of what truly matters.

Like any other year, it slowly slipped in after midnight, casting a pre-emptive shadow over a world too self-absorbed to notice. Before the sun rose, the world was enveloped in its own darkness, pointing fingers and casting blame while denying our own actions.

I grew up in a world where most people looked like me. I watched the world change while women evolved and did extraordinary things. These women also looked like me.

I admired Barbara Walters sitting next to Hugh Downs co-anchoring the news and looked forward to her numerous one on one interviews for the infamous Barbara Walters Specials. Geraldine Ferraro was the selected VP choice of Walter Mondale while I was in high school. The excitement around the historic moment left me disappointed that I wasn’t old enough to vote, and equally frustrated when they lost.

Seeing women doing the…

While the Senate scrambles to confirm Amy Cone y Barrett, women across the country are up in arms, certain their right to retain control over their own bodies will be decimated in the courts in the very near future. A woman’s right to choose whether to have children has a very dark and ominous history in America, and it began long before the landmark decision in Roe v. Wade.

In 1978, the ACLU took a case on behalf of 5 women against American Cyanamide for pressuring them to undergo sterilization in order to keep their jobs. The company claimed it…

As America faces a Presidential Election in one of the most divisive times in our country it’s not uncommon to recall elections past. The legal right to Vote has been at the forefront of what our country stands for since its inception. A democracy proudly and patriotically created by the people for the people now finds itself in a tug o war with those elected to power and their reluctancy to give that power up . Democracy isn’t easy and the fight to keep it never ending. The seed of democracy is voting, it’s the foundation of a free and…

IF All Lives Matter, where is your outrage when unarmed black men are being murdered by the very people sworn to protect All Lives? Where is your outrage when a Mosque is burned to the ground? Children are being separated from their parents and locked in cages like animals? People brutally assaulted and murdered simply for who they love? African American churches are shot up, bombed, and burnt to the ground?

Yesterday morning amidst the incoming reports of protests turned violent, I asked how calling the police on looters was the same as calling the police on protesters. My white…

In these isolating times, we’re reminded of the importance of togetherness. The incredible way humans create support for one another is quite the phenomenon. The impact of someone’s voice encouraging us, can fill a void we are certain we will drown in. The way a smile can touch a stranger, bringing light to a deeply dense darkness. Sharing our laughter can crack through the silence of depression. We have this innate ability to lift one another up.

As we find ways to be together while apart, we have risen to the challenge and we have faltered.

The way our unique…

While it is true in many ways the current administration has faltered during this crucial time, we can’t turn back the clock on a major misstep. We can’t change what happened last month, last week or last night or even last press conference.

This virus is not partisan, it doesn’t care who you voted for or will vote for. It won’t matter if you’re a veteran, a first responder, a student, a teacher, or whether you are currently employed when it decides to come calling.

Not all Republicans have jobs and not all Democrats are unemployed, get over yourselves! There…

As the Auschwitz Memorial and Museum celebrates its 75th Anniversary of Liberation,[1] which took place on January 27th 1945, the push for awareness of the events that rocked an entire country and impacted the world as a whole, are saturating the globe as a new generation is taught the horrors of the world’s largest genocide.

What many won’t recall however, are the incidents that led up to the attempted annihilation of an entire people. History tends to skip over the events that built the foundation for such an abhorrent act to ever take place. July of 1933, Germany invoked the…
